Shamirpet Deer Park, Shamirpet, Telangana.
Shamirpet Deer Park, commonly known as Jawahar Deer Park, is located at Shamirpet in Ranga Reddy district of Telangana. It lies to the north from the capital city of Hyderabad. As the name suggests, this park is home to different species of deer. It was built by the Nizams during the 20th century for the protection of deer.
Shamirpet Deer Park offers a natural setting for the deer with plenty of space for romping around or gamboling and is a far cry from the artificial enclosures found in the zoos. The hoof-mark trail will take you past little ponds of water, with trees dipping their fronds into them. These are the watering holes for the deer, apart from the water troughs laid out for them at regular intervals in the sanctuary.
The park is called as Shamirpet Deer Park due to its close vicinity to the Shamirpet Lake, an artificial manmade lake which was constructed around 1960’s. The park is spread over 55 acres and is also home to 15 different species of birds. It also exhibits a Butterfly Park, which is a treat to watch. Chital and Blackbucks are the main residents here and are found in large number. Once a hunting ground for Nizam, this park is now maintained by the Government of Telangana under the supervision of State Forest Department.
Shamirpet Deer Park is a good destination to visit if you are looking for refreshing yourself in natural environs.
