Bannerghatta National Park, near Bangalore, Karnataka, was founded in 1970 and declared as a national park in 1974. In 2002 a portion of the park, became a biological reserve, the Bannerghatta Biological Park.

A mere 22 kms away from the urban jungle that is Bangalore (Bengaluru) is Bannerghatta National Park. This natural reserve spans 25,000 acres and comprises of 10 forest reserves of the Bangalore Forest Division. The Bannerghatta National Park, a Safari Park, a serpentarium, a Butterfly Park, a museum, a park of pre-historic animals and not to forget, the famous Bannerghatta Zoo form a large part of this National Park.
